This book is great, it has some real historical detail and provides some well developed characters. At times the amount of historical detail (using entire chapters to give the reader historical footing) can be monotonous and serve to disrupt, rather than help, the flow of the story, but at the same time it provides context to understand the urgency and motivations of the Lion of the South. I get it. I just wish that it would have been cut down and that instead more attention given to developing the potential relationship of the two MCs. The all of a sudden use of erasey-erasey at the end just seemed rushed and untrue to either character without there being more moments of heart-to-heart chatting or at least a shared smoldering glance.

Regardless I would recommend this to lovers of clean romance, the antebellum period, or those who are hoping for something light and easy to read.
